Modi's strategy was twofold. Firstly, he convinced victims to invest their funds, claiming he would use their returns to purchase vacant land. This tactic not only played on the victims' financial aspirations but also created a sense of urgency, as he often threatened to close investment opportunities without prior notice. Secondly, he produced false documents to further deceive his victims, making them believe their investments were thriving.
The investigation, which began in August 2024, revealed a disturbing pattern. Despite the false promises and documents, victims never saw any returns. This realization, coupled with the discovery of the forged documents, led to Modi's arrest on March 3, 2026. He now faces a daunting legal battle, with four counts of fraud over $5,000, four counts of possession of proceeds obtained by crime, and three counts of forgery.
